I have a sense of fulfilment for joining politics, this is just the beginning — Peter Obi

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP),
says he will not stop seeking elective office until he “dismantles the crime
scene” in Nigeria.

Obi spoke on Saturday during an event to celebrate Black
History Month at Oxford University.

Obi said he left a huge financial investment to join
politics and contest for the 2003 Anambra governorship election.

The former Anambra governor said despite his financial loss,
he has a sense of fulfilment that he joined politics to change certain things.

“Looking back now, as difficult as it is and with all the
things I have lost, I have a sense of fulfilment that at least I can say I
change this and change that,” he said.

“As I was coming here today somebody asked me how do you
feel about contesting the election for the office of the president and what has
happened.

“I said let me tell you, this is just the beginning, we
won’t stop until we dismantle that crime scene. That is basically how I feel.

“For me, we need to all come together to make Africa,
including Nigeria, work and collectively, the black world.”

Obi said Africa is the “most unexplored and unproductive”
continent in the world.

He added that what is lacking in the development of Africa
is leadership, noting the continent can be turned around within a small space
of time.

Asked to react to the recent supreme court judgement on his
appeal, the LP presidential candidate declined to comment, saying he would
write down his thoughts later.

I defended Tinubu on certificate controversy until new facts emerged – Ayo Adebanjo

Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-cultural
group, says Nigerians should be ashamed to have a president with a certificate
"baggage".

Adebanjo spoke in a 41-minute interview ">published by PUNCH on Sunday.

During the presidential election tribunal, Atiku Abubakar,
flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, had contested
the authenticity of the Chicago State University (CSU) certificate presented to
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu had said he lost his original certificates and
presented a replacement of his CSU diploma to INEC for the 2023 presidential
election.

Following a court order, the university later released
Tinubu's academic records, saying his replacement certificate matched its
format.

But the Afenifere leader said without technicalities, no
honest person can defend Tinubu on the matter.

"There is no truth in what he says. That's the
unfortunate thing. I feel sorry for the country, particularly Tinubu defenders,
can they be proud? Whether true or not, why is it him? When they finally
produced the record from the university, it was even more damaging,"
Adebanjo said.

"In this Tinubu saga, you presented the certificate
from the university, now they are trying to change (the conversation) to his
attendance at the university.

"How many people attended the university and never
completed it or even dropped out? You said you attended and have the
certificate, and the registrar said they don't know about the certificate. What
more do you want?

"This is what makes me sad in this country and those
still saying something in defence of this ugly situation where we should cover
our face as Nigerians that the man we produced to be our president has his
baggage. I am concerned."

Adebanjo said he had defended Tinubu on the certificate
scandal in the past because of the little knowledge he had on the matter.

"Mind you, I should be one of those who should be proud
that Tinubu is the president of this country because I made him the governor of
Lagos state. When this certificate saga started, I was the one who defended
him. I defended him from the fact I saw at that time. But when some facts are
now coming up, I folded my arms," he said.

"Forget technicalities, do the substantial justice. Can
any honest person, in view of the exposure from the university, say he (Tinubu)
got that certificate from the university?"

Israel-Hamas war: Nigeria, 119 UN member states vote for immediate ceasefire

Nigeria has joined 119 members of the United Nations General
Assembly (UNGA) to vote for an immediate humanitarian truce in the war between
Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian militant group.

The general assembly convened on Friday in New York, United
States, as Israel intensified its bombardment on Gaza after announcing an
expansion in ground operations.

Telephone and internet services have been cut off in Gaza
and residents said Friday’s air strikes were the most intense they had seen
since the war broke out three weeks ago.

During the UNGA session, the 193-member body passed the
resolution calling for an “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce
leading to a cessation of hostilities”.

The UNGA also said it “firmly rejects any attempts at the
forced transfer of the Palestinian civilian population”.

The resolution also stated the need to avoid a wider
escalation of the fighting and demanded increased humanitarian aid for Gaza.

The move was led by a group of 22 Arab countries and 120
countries voted in favour, with 14 countries voting against, and 45 abstaining.

The US, Israel, Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Fiji, Hungary,
Guatemala, Papua Guinea, and Nauru were among those who voted against it.

Gilad Erdan, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, said “a
ceasefire means giving Hamas time to rearm itself,” adding that the vote was
not intended to bring peace but to “tie Israel’s hands”.

Meanwhile, a Canadian-introduced amendment to the resolution
that would have added a condemnation of the Hamas attack did not receive the
necessary two-thirds majority.

VIDEO: Mohbad’s wife, parents arrive court for coroner’s inquest

The wife and parents of Mohbad, on Wednesday, arrived at the
Lagos coroner court sitting in Ikorodu for an inquest into the death of the
singer.

Born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, Mohbad passed away on
September 12 and was laid to rest the following day.

On September 21, the body of the 27-year-old music star was
exhumed by a combined team involving the police in Lagos and health officials
for autopsy.

The autopsy was carried out that same day after which the police
announced that they were awaiting the results.

The circumstances surrounding his death have continued to
stir up controversies on social media.

Primeboy, Naira Marley, and Sam Larry are persons of
interest in the death of Mohbad.

On October 13, Adedayi Shotibi, the coroner magistrate,
directed the three suspects — who had been in police custody — to appear before
the court at the next adjourned date.

On Wednesday afternoon, the family members of the singers
were seen in a now-viral video walking into the court premises ahead of the
coroner’s inquest.

The police in Lagos earlier named Feyisola Ogedengbe, the
auxiliary nurse who injected Mohbad, as “the prime suspect” in the singer’s
death.

Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos state police commissioner, said
the “auxiliary nurse administered multiple and highly potent injections which
triggered an immediate reaction that eventually occasioned the death of
Mohbad”.

The commissioner said the injections, consisting of tetanus
toxoid, paracetamol, and ceftriaxone injection (IV) were administered at
Mohbad’s residence.

IGP Egbetokun condemns Otukpo bank robbery

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has strongly condemned the recent bloody bank robbery in Otukpo, Benue State, that resulted in the tragic loss of lives of police officers and innocent civilians.

Egbetokun, in a statement he signed on Saturday, said the act of violence is an assault on the principles of peace, security, and justice that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies work tirelessly to uphold.

He also ordered the deployment of additional operational and investigative assets and resources to Otukpo, the Benue State Police Command, and surrounding states to assist in swiftly apprehending the criminals responsible for the atrocity.

The IGP, who noted that two suspects were gunned down by security operatives while attempting to escape, averred that the Nigeria Police Force has initiated a comprehensive and coordinated effort to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.

Egbetokun expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims affected by the violence while urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities by providing information that may aid the investigation and arrest of the suspects.

Petrol subsidy was removed for Nigeria not to collapse, says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu says the removal of subsidy on petrol
was imperative to prevent Nigeria’s collapse.

On assuming office in May, Tinubu, in his inauguration
speech, said the subsidy on the commodity “is gone”.

The pronouncement swiftly triggered an increase in the
petrol pump price, causing nationwide hardship as inflation soared.

Speaking on Friday when he hosted a delegation of Muslim
leaders from the south-western part of the country at the Aso Rock villa, the
president said the removal of the subsidy has caused hardship but the situation
would get better.

 “It is about our
future. We must guarantee our future. Almighty Allah will not give us a burden
that we cannot bear,” Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, quoted the
number one citizen as saying.

“He has put us here for a purpose. It may look difficult;
even rough, but it will get better. We avoided it (removing the subsidy) for 40
years. We are all going through the pain now, but for Nigeria not to collapse,
we had to remove the subsidy.

“In the history of successful nations, there is nothing more
vital than the leadership of a nation taking difficult decisions at the right
time and for the right reasons.

 “There would have
been no money for the sub-nationals.”

Tinubu said his administration is putting in the work to
ensure that the country’s economy gets better.

“We have to believe in one country; we have to believe in
Nigeria. We will do our best, and our economy will get better for the benefit
of Nigerians,” he said.

“I am very sure of that, and we are putting in the work to
ensure that.”

On his part, Rasaki Oladejo, leader of the delegation,
commended Tinubu’s courage in removing the subsidy.

Alleged missing intestine: Coroner inquest begins in Lagos

The Coroner’s inquest into the death of Adebola Akin-Bright, the 12-year-old boy whose small intestine reportedly went missing, started on Friday at an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos.

Akin-Bright died on Sept. 9 following a corrective surgery done at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.

The Coroner Inquest is presided over by Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, the District Coroner.

At the inaugural hearing, Mr O.A. Akinde, Lagos State counsel, informed the court that necessary tests and examinations had been conducted on the corpse and there is a post-mortem report.

He said that the office of the Attorney-General is aware of letters from solicitors to the father of the deceased seeking to preserve the corpse.

The state counsel noted that the mother of the boy also seeks the release of the corpse to her for burial and the state is not against any of the requests, as the court may decide.

Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, counsel to the complainant, informed the court that he would love to call the Medical Director of Hobitox Medical Centre, where the deceased was first admitted and treated.

He said the doctors who treated the deceased in LASUTH and all policemen involved in the investigation would be summoned for proper understanding of what actually happened.

The Coroner, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, informed the court that the autopsy report was ready and would soon be presented as requested by the court.

The coroner also stated that the father and mother of the deceased should file their respective applications on what to do with the corpse so that the court can rule on it.

Adegboruwa, however, stated that since the deceased died in LASUTH, it might be better to have an independent examination of the corpse by experts.

He said experts like the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, could take up the responsibility to avoid the likelihood of bias and conflict of interests.

The counsel to the complainant told the court that he became aware on Friday morning, before the court, that Mr Femi Falana, SAN, is the lead counsel to the mother of the deceased.

He submitted that he would prefer to liaise with Falana so that both father and mother can harmonise their viewpoints while they allow the coroner to preserve the corpse.

Akinde informed the court that the state is ready to cooperate with and assist the parties by making available all witnesses, documents, doctors and medical personnel that attended to the deceased at LASUTH.

After listening to all the parties, the coroner stated that the inaugural sitting is for preliminary proceedings to set the course for the inquest.

She asked the parties to meet and harmonise their views and submit the list of the names of witnesses to be called before the next date.

She also directed that the autopsy report and all necessary documents be made available to counsel to the parties.

The case was adjourned to Nov. 24, for further proceedings.

LP lawmakers shun Abure, set to collect SUVs

Labour Party lawmakers in the National Assembly have ignored
the advice of the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, not to be a part of
the luxury official vehicles being planned for legislators.

Abure had, in a statement on Monday, said the National
Assembly leadership was planning to buy a Sport Utility Vehicle worth N160m for
each lawmaker.

Abure, who described the alleged plan as insensitive and
condemnable given the dire economic situation in the country, urged lawmakers
elected on the platform of the Labour Party not to be a part of the profligate
spending.

But when asked on Thursday whether LP lawmakers would do as
Abure said, the lawmaker representing Delta Aniocha North and South, Ngozi
Okolie, said Abure’s demands were unrealistic particularly because he had yet
to provide them with alternatives to carry out their jobs.

The LP lawmaker said, “The SUVs are meant to aid our jobs as
lawmakers, particularly as it relates to our oversight functions.

“Yes, he can say that the economy is struggling but having
one official vehicle as federal lawmakers isn’t frivolous; it’s a necessity.”

Okolie noted that Nigerians were quick to attack lawmakers
over things like this whereas politicians at the state level get more benefits
than federal lawmakers.

He said, “Commissioners and House of Assembly members get up
to two to three of such cars whereas National Assembly members are only getting
one car each, yet he (Abure) is complaining and telling us not to collect
it.  Does he have any to give to us?

“Is he going to give us work tools to carry out our jobs or
does he have an alternative for us? Has Abure told the members in his state in
Edo, not to take the official vehicles given to them?”

The lawmaker further argued that it was cheaper to buy those
vehicles than hire one every time they needed to go on an oversight.

Similarly, the lawmaker representing Igbo Etiti and
Uzo-Uwani constituencies in Enugu State, Stainless  Nwodo, said
President Bola Tinubu deserved commendation for approving such vehicles
for lawmakers.

Nwodo  said, “National
Assembly members should pray for the President and give him three ‘Gbosas’ for
his magnanimity to the lawmakers.

“Nobody in the National Assembly is against the SUV, when
the SUV comes, we will collect it and use it to bring more benefits to our
constituencies; because in the real sense, it is for the constituents.”

The lawmaker added, “I don’t want to believe the chairman of
the party said so, because did he give us any vehicle to do our jobs?

“Attributing his reason to economic hardship is pure
blackmail. In the first instance, the vehicle is for each constituency, not the
personal vehicle for the members.

“Also, we need these SUVs to ply the bad roads in our
constituencies when we need to visit them and deliver goodies to them.  This is why the Speaker and the Senate
President decided that SUVs are better to visit our constituencies.

“My own stance is that I will take the SUV and use it to
deliver dividends to my constituents.”

On his part, the lawmaker representing Edo South Senatorial
District, Neda Imasuen, said he would wait for the vehicles to arrive before
making a decision.

Senator Imasuen said, “I’d urge you to wait until that
happens, then we will revisit the issue. I wouldn’t want to count my chickens
before they hatch.

“Labour Party has eight senators out of 109 and about 35 in
the House of Representatives out of 360. So, I don’t know if it would make any
difference if the lawmakers in the party take it or not.

“I don’t think telling them to take or reject would make any
difference, I don’t think it would affect anything.

“Having said that, we haven’t been given any vehicle yet,
but they said they would give.”

Unilorin VC, Prof Egbewole decries brain drain as 25,234 students graduate

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, has decried the menace of brain drain that has hit the Nigerian university system.

He also noted the inadequate resources hindering the proper running of Nigerian universities and the dangers of understaffing.

At a world press conference on the 37th and 38th convocation ceremonies of the institution, where 25,234 students will graduate, with 450 in the First Class division, Professor Egbewole admitted that “some of our best eggs are leaving the country in droves.”

Taking solace in late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s philosophy on life and education, he said the university management had shown that nothing can deter their commitment to education and progress.

The VC urged the management to “tear the mask of retrogression, servitude, social inequality, mediocrity and indignity in our university and the nation at large. ”

“We have 14,477 students for the 37th convocation ceremonies in the 2020/2021 academic session, and 10,757 students for the 38th convocation ceremonies who are for the 2021/2022 academic session,” he said.

“The 2020/2021 academic session produced 211 first class graduates, while the 2021/2022 academic session produced 239 first class graduates.”

Professor Egbewole said although the past year had been with its challenges with the multiplier effects of the fuel subsidy removal, which has tested the institution’s economic resilience and prudent, but “I must deliver on the mandates given to me and the dreams of the founding fathers of this university.”

I won’t allow anyone to harm my people even if it will cost me my life– Dikko Radda

Dikko Radda, governor of Katsina, says he would protect the
people of the state from banditry attacks “even if it would cost him his life”.

Speaking on Monday during an interview with BBC Hausa, Radda
said it is high time banditry activities were stopped in the state.

He said his administration recognises the importance of
security, adding that collective effort is needed to end insecurity in the
state.

The governor recently established the community watch corps
to complement the efforts of conventional security bodies in the fight against
banditry in Katsina.

He commented on the new security outfit and said the group
has been fully equipped with the necessary tools.

Radda added that members of the corps are volunteers who
understand the nature of the insecurity in their various areas.

He said the volunteers are ready to safeguard their
communities and also ensure the safety of their loved ones.

“We have set up, trained, and equipped the volunteers and
also provided them with cars and motorcycles, including armoured vehicles,” he
said.

“On the issue of payment of salaries to the new security
body, the government is working on plans to ensure they are placed on
allowance.

“It is important for people to know that these volunteers
are not paid for this job but they are people who are motivated by a sense of
duty to protect their communities and their loved ones.

“People who are criticising the patrols of the corps, saying
it will further worsen the security situation in the state are making a
baseless point.

 “People living in the
affected areas are aware of the true situation of the security issue in their
communities and it is unacceptable to allow these people (bandits) to continue
to kidnap and kill residents.

“I swear to God, as a governor, even if it will cost me my
life, I won’t allow anyone to harm my people. The problem of banditry has
reached a point where we must all unite and put an end to it.

“Those who oppose these measures are probably doing so
because they do not have lived ones in the affected areas and are not the ones
being killed.

“Once we conclude all necessary preparations, I will also
start entering the forest.”

Reasons behind Wike, Saraki’s home visit revealed

As the search for the next National Chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party continues, the reason former Rivers State governor and
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former President of
the Senate, Abubakar Saraki visited one another has been uncovered.

Saraki and Wike contested the PDP presidential primary, but
lost to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The former President of the Senate was appointed into the
PDP/Atiku’s campaign team and with the support of others worked for the party
in the presidential election.

Wike, who called for the removal of the suspended national
chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, for South-North balance, alongside his G5 faction, worked
against the interest of Atiku and the party in the 2023 presidential election.

The former Rivers State governor who worked for President
Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was appointed minister of FCT.

Upon assumption, Wike declared that he remained a member of
the PDP only working with President Tinubu to transform Nigeria.

As the call for Wike to be sanctioned gathers momentum, many
members of the PDP are also demanding the replacement of the acting National
Chairman, Umar Damagum.

In a new twist, Wike on Tuesday stormed Saraki’s house
located at Lake Chad Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

The PUNCH reports that a high-ranking member of the PDP
National Working Committee revealed that the issue about who would succeed
Damagum was part of the reason Wike visited Saraki.

The source who does not want his name mentioned in the print
disclosed that Atiku and a few party leaders had settled for Saraki to succeed
Damagum.

He said, “We are aware that the party’s presidential
candidate, Atiku, and a few party leaders are discussing the person that will
succeed the Damagum. In recent times, I am aware that Atiku and some of these
leaders have settled for Saraki.

“They settled for Saraki because they believed he had the
charisma and the political will to reposition the party. So, discussion is
ongoing within party stakeholders.”

When asked about who the next PDP National Chairman would be
unveiled, he said, “What is delaying the process is the Atiku and PDP’s case
before the Supreme Court.

“Once the Supreme Court rules on the presidential election
matter between now and November, the leaders will come out open and things will
pick up.”

When contacted by our correspondent, Saraki’s media aide,
Yusuph Olaniyonu, described the visit as a “friendly visit”.

Peter Obi should consider a career in evangelism, Abuja's press conference needless - Reuben Abati

Reuben Abati, a veteran Nigerian journalist, has roasted Mr. Peter Obi over the press conference that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Obi at the press conference urged President Bola Tinubu to tell Nigerians his true name and everything related to his educational career.

The former Anambra governor asked Tinubu to provide clear details about the schools he attended, whether he participated in the National Youth Service Corps, and if he changed his name at any point.

Obi added that Tinubu needs to introduce himself to Nigerians and the world so as to further avoid doubts and international embarrassment.

Reacting to the press conference on Arise TV on Thursday, Mr. Abati averred that the event organized by Obi was needless.

He said: “When I saw the press conference by Mr. Peter Obi yesterday, I felt it was needless. If Mr Peter Obi is considering a career in evangelism, there are many people who have gone from other careers into evangelism, but within the framework of the electoral process, what he (Obi) did yesterday, he (Obi) is just seeking the media attention, looking for publicity.

“Why do I say so, the electoral process is effectively in process, if you as a principal member of the process have any grievances, the best place to go to is the court of law, and which is what Atiku Abubakar has done, the presidential candidate of the PDP. The last time Waziri had a press conference he came out and said he wanted the candidate of NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Mr Peter Obi to join him, the Labour Party released a statement and said they were not part of it. Ok, is it that now, the Labour Party has changed its mind?.”

Abati added that the response from APC concerning Obi’s press conference was in place.

The APC had also in a statement on Wednesday rubbished Peter
Obi’s press conference.

According to the ruling party, the Chicago State University
has clarified the questions raised by Obi and there is nothing hidden about the
identity of Nigeria’s president.

APC added that Obi only echoed the script authored by Atiku
Abubakar.

I almost suffered heart attack over Gowon's death rumour, says Edwin Clark

Edwin Clark, the convener of the
Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), says he almost suffered a heart attack over the
rumoured death of Yakubu Gowon.

On Monday, some social media
users claimed that Gowon, former military head of state, had passed away.

Reacting to the claim in a
statement, Adeyeye Ajayi, the personal aide to Gowon, said the former military
leader is alive.

"I am still around and well.
I am not in a hurry," the statement quoted Gowon as saying.

Speaking with journalists in
Abuja on Tuesday, Clark said he was devastated when he heard the rumoured death
of the former head of state until he spoke with him via the mobile phone.

"The social media yesterday
almost caused an attack on me when they announced that General Yakubu Gowon was
gone," he said.

"I had a breakdown only to
discover that it was not true when Gen. Gowon phoned to say that 'I'm still
alive, I'm still enjoying this country and the position I am'.

"So what am I saying? Let us
build up a country where people from an aspect of the country are not subjected
to the position of second-class citizens."

Clark served as the minister of
information under the military administration of Gowon in 1975.

Gowon was the head of state
between August 1, 1966 and July 29, 1975.

Shehu Sani backs calls for FRSC personnel to bear guns

A former Senator, Shehu Sani, has thrown his weight behind the call for personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to bear firearms.

However, he opined that only those on the federal highways outside the city should be trained and given firearms.

Recall that the Federal Road Safety Corps has harped on the need for its personnel to bear firearms in discharging their duties, considering the level of security challenges across the country.

The Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, made this call on Saturday while inaugurating 1,762 corps personnel who just concluded their four-month introductory course at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, Niger.

Biu, who was represented by Shehu Zaki, a Deputy Corps Marshal, said that the measure would ensure adequate protection for the personnel who were often attacked in the course of duty by some road users or suspected criminals who take advantage of the security challenges in the country.

And in reaction, the former Kaduna central district Senator said, “I support that Federal Road Safety Corps should bear arms,” he wrote on X.

“But only for those working on the federal highways outside the cities,” he added.

Premier League: Guardiola names two teams that will challenge Man City for title

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has named the two clubs that will challenge them for the Premier League title this season.

Guardiola takes the champions to the Emirates for a highly anticipated fixture this Sunday against third-placed Arsenal.

Although he insisted the game will not define the title race for City, the former Barcelona manager believed Arsenal will be contenders for the Premier League title, alongside Liverpool.

“Arsenal will be title rivals, along with Liverpool. To analyse the contenders, the idea is the first 10 games; we haven’t played 10, we have to wait, but the big clubs are always contenders,” Guardiola told a press conference on Friday.

Buhari's government shared my oil licences among themselves –Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, says he is not worried that his litigation against President Bola Tinubu may affect his business interests.

Abubakar spoke on Thursday at a press conference he called on the academic records of Tinubu released by the Chicago State University (CSU) on Monday.

The former vice-president said he lost his oil and gas logistics licences during the regime of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

"I was the founder of one of the biggest oil and gas logistics companies since the military era," Abubakar told the press.

"We have got nothing to do with government. We were only contractors in logistics to the oil companies, not the government. But as soon as Buhari came, all those contracts were revoked and taken away from us till today.

"We are not doing any government business. Yes, I'm in other businesses; agriculture, manufacturing and so on and so forth.

"So, I'm not scared of any business being taken away from me. It has already been taken away from me since the beginning of, was it 1990. Since Buhari's time.

"They took it and distributed it among themselves" he said

Abubakar is challenging the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 poll and the tribunal's judgement that upheld the president's victory on September 6.

Mohbad’s father demands DNA test on grandson

Mr. Joseph Aloba, father of late Nigerian rapper, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, aka Mohbad, has demanded a DNA test on his grandson.

Recall that Nigerians have been torn apart over calls for a DNA test on the late singer’s son, Liam, to ascertain his true paternity.

While some are of the opinion that it was important to conduct a DNA test on the late singer’s son in the wake of allegations that his wife cheated on him, others argued that the calls for a DNA test on Mohbad’s five-month-old son were “insensitive.”

However, speaking in a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Mohbad’s father said a DNA test should be conducted on his grandson, stressing that it has become a global concern.

He said, “This thing has become a majority thing, not only in Nigeria. So they should do the proper thing at the proper time.”

Atiku's court victory in Chicago useless, say Tinubu's lawyers

One of President Bola Tinubu’s attorneys, Oluwole Afolabi
has poured cold water on Atiku Abubakar’s Chicago court victory, saying it is
of no use in Atiku’s Supreme Court appeal against Tinubu’s election.

In a WhatsApp note on the implication of the ruling by Judge
Nancy Maldonado, Afolabi said:

“The Electoral Act does not allow for the introduction of
new evidence on appeal.

“A party must provide a list of the documents he intends to
rely on at the time his Petition is filed.

“A party cannot spring surprise on his adversary by
introducing evidence that was not filed along with the Petition.”

Tinubu’s personal lawyer, Senior advocate of Nigeria
Babatunde Ogala also said whatever document Atiku gets from the Chicago State
University is no longer useful.

“The headless mob is masturbating over nothing. The
documents can no longer be used. It is of no value. We have passed that stage”.

Ogala broke down the requests of Atiku to CSU, some of which
the school already gave to the the Presidential Election Petition Court before
its 6 September judgment, in which it dismissed Atiku and Peter Obi’s
petitions.

“One is whether President Tinubu attended Chicago State
University. The answer is yes. Second, what were his grades in school? The
school had already provided that”.

He said the school however objected to releasing Tinubu’s
other electronic records covered by the privacy law in the United States.
