Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni has tasked the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes, (ACReSAL), a World Bank programme, to complement government efforts in providing solutions to mitigate the anticipated flood this rainy season.
Buni gave the charge on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the World Bank and ACReSAL.
The Governor, in a statement by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed, said the most definite measure to avert the flood was to construct drainages to channel the flood waters outside the towns and communities.
“This should be treated as a matter of emergency and urgent public importance to avert the looming threat posed by the anticipated flood”, Buni said.
He further appealed that adequate measures must be taken to support the resilience of resettled communities, as well as the resettlement programme of the state government by saving the reconstructed houses from the threat of flood.
The ACReSAL Team Leader, Ms Joy Iyanga Agene, assured to support the state government to save the people.
She commended Yobe State government for providing conducive environment that enhanced the performance of projects in the state.
