A chieftain of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Comrade Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has enjoined the Federal Government and Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, to compensate all the victims of the recent attack on labour leaders in Imo State.
Oguntoyinbo made the call on Friday.
Recall that the National President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero and some labour leaders were attacked on Wednesday in Owerri in Imo State.
Oguntoyinbo, while reacting, condemned the attack on Ajaero and other peaceful protesters in Imo state.
The NNPP chieftain in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, said that peaceful protest is allowed under democratic rule.
He wondered why political thugs descended on peaceful protesters.
Oguntoyinbo called on both the federal and the Imo state governments to compensate those who sustained injuries in the attack.
He equally urged security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the attack on the labour leaders.
“It is sad that peaceful protesters including the NLC leaders were attacked in Imo State. It is the highest display of barbaric attitude and this deserve condemnation from all well meaning Nigerians.
“Peaceful protests is normal and allowed in a democratic atmosphere. It is not an unusual thing for workers to demonstrate and protests against what they think infringe on their rights. What took place in Imo state last Wednesday where peaceful protesters were brutally attacked is the worst that can happen under a civilized administration.
“Those political thugs who descended on the peaceful workers have destroyed their future and that of their children. I called on both the Federal and the Imo state governments to compensate the family of those who lost their person and those who sustained injuries in the attack. The security agencies should fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly acts and let them face the full wrath of law,” he said.
