  Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, could have become his running mate if the latter had joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).   Kwankwaso spoke on Monday in an interview on Channels Television.   On May 27, Obi joined the Labour Party hours after announcing the resignation of his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).   Before the former governor joined the LP, there were speculations that Obi may form an alliance with Kwankwaso in the NNPP to contest the presidency.   On Monday, Obi was elected the presidential candidate of the LP after three other aspirants stepped down for him.   On the other hand, Kwankwaso is the only presidential aspirant in NNPP.   Asked if there Obi was approached on joining NNPP, Kwankwaso said he discussed national issues with the former Anambra governor a few days before he joined LP.    “Well, actually, we had the opportunity to talk to ourselves on many national issues until a few days to the time when he declared for the Labour Party of which now he is the presidential candidate,” he said.   “I wish him well and I wish all other presidential candidates well. I’m sure this (presidential election) will be decided by the people across the country who are going to vote on 25th February 2023.”   Asked if he would have considered Peter Obi as his running mate, the former Kano governor said many people suggested the idea.   “Many people just suggested that. I believe that it could have been possible if not because he joined another party. Now, he is already a candidate as we have seen from the news now. We look forward to seeing what happens in the next few weeks,” he added.

  The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned the people of Ohaji Local Government Area of Imo State against ceding their land to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.   IPOB cautioned the people of Ohaji against accepting Wike’s alleged satanic and deceptive financial inducement.   Emma Powerful, the spokesman of IPOB, issued the warning in reaction to an alleged illegal and undocumented ceding of communities in Ohaji Local Government Area to Wike.   Powerful warned that ceding their communities to Wike would affect their children’s future; hence such a deceptive move should be rejected.   He urged the communities to treat whoever is persuading them to change their state of origin as a criminal.   Powerful noted that accepting to change their state of origin for the sake of N150,000 monthly is evil.   A statement by Powerful reads partly: “Following an illegal undocumented treaty to cede communities of Ohaji Egbema LGA from Imo State to Rivers State via a crooked financial inducement by current Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.   “We the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our great leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU wish to warn that such project is called to a halt to avert inevitable consequences.   “We suggest to the communities that fall into this deceptive venture masterminded by Nyesom Wike to retrace their steps, considering that this singular act could attract futuristic destructive effects.   “IPOB was intimated with the information regarding Governor Wike’s plan, which includes conditional future promises and haven gone through these moves realized that Wike will abandon them in future because governor Wike cannot be in charge of Rivers State beyond his tenor as a current Governor.   “It is a known fact that the Imo State government failed in their obligations as it concerns the predicaments they are facing in that area, but they must forget Wike with his satanic offer. Wike’s deceptive offer would harm them and their children in the future as such may not be sustainable by successive governments. Moreover, the Biafra restoration approaches hastily.   “IPOB is advising them to retrace their steps and watch what God Almighty has in stock for them; changing God Almighty’s plans for children will harm the communities in the future, for God to have placed you where you are today does not mean that he has abandoned you.   “The communities or anybody persuading them to change their State of origin identity and be acquired like slaves with cash value of N150 (One Hundred and Fifty Naira Only) is evil and must be treated as criminal because we don’t see where old men and women, youths and educated people would allow such an undocumented territorial treaty due to hunger and abandonment.”

Federal High Court turns back Okorocha’s ‘political crowd’ ahead bail battle

Political associates, friends and sympathizers of detained former Imo State Governor, Anayo Rochas Okorocha are being turned back at the entrance gate of the Federal High Court in Abuja as part of crowd control mechanisms. The sympathizers, who thronged the court premises as early as 7am, are in their hundreds struggling to access the court to witness proceedings. Okorocha, who has just been moved to the court room by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is billed to battle today for his bail in the N2.9B corruption charges brought against him by the Federal Government. His plea of not guilty was taken on Monday before Justice Inyang Ekwo who thereafter fixed today for arguments for and against his bail request. At the time of this report, the gate of the court had been firmly locked against the crowd which kept on surging upon the arrival of the former governor to the court. Although, no official statement from the court yet, it was reliably gathered that the private security men at the gate took the decision to avoid implosion in the court room. Already, the court room has been filled to the brim, while several others are loitering around the court room. It was also gathered that as a proactive measure, Okorocha himself has mobilized some highly placed persons comprising Senators, house owners in Abuja and top government functionaries to court to surety him if admitted to bail. The five Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, engaged for defence by the embattled former governor are already putting their heads together on how to marshall arguments for the bail of their client.

Nollywood actor Osmond Gbadebo is dead

  Nollywood actors are mourning as one of their colleagues, Osmond Gbadebo passed away on Monday.   His death was announced by veteran actress, Fausat Balogun aka Madam Saje on her Instagram page.   She revealed that the filmmaker and actor died at about 4:00 am.   Although there was no mention of the cause of death, many actors dropped comments on Saje’s page mourning the deceased.   Bimbo Success wrote; “So sad Osmond Gbadebo, may your gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace!!! 2023: You can’t be President – Primate Ayodele tells Peter Obi

  The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Monday, warned a South-East presidential hopeful, Peter Obi against his presidential ambition.   Primate Ayodele disclosed that Obi cannot contest the presidential election and win, hence he should resign from politics or help suffering Nigerians with his resources.   In a statement by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, the cleric attested to Obi’s leadership qualities, but noted that he doesn’t have the backing of God for the presidential election, coupled with the fact that he was misled into joining another party to pursue his ambition.   He also mentioned that South-East leaders have successfully jeopardized the chances of the zone in the 2023 presidential ambition.   Ayodele noted that the coming generation will remember their actions and curse them for bringing such a predicament to the zone.   “There is no way Peter Obi can contest and win, it’s either he resigns from politics or wastes his money. Better still, he should help Nigerians that are suffering with his resources.   “He was misled into joining the Labour Party to pursue his presidential ambition; he has missed it, Igbos have missed it already, their generations to come will remember this and curse them.   “The South-East political leaders have successfully jeopardized the chances of the Igbos and turned the zone to something else.   “Igbo have no leaders; they don’t like themselves at all, Peter Obi is a fantastic leader, but he cannot become the next president of Nigeria, any party that gives him ticket will be a waste of time.”   Primate Ayodele had warned the South-East leaders not to allow the presidency elude them in 2023 because of their selfish interests and betrayal.   He had noted that for peace to reign, the South-East deserves to produce a president but if the leaders are not careful, they will miss it.

BREAKING: Gunmen attack broadcast station in Anambra, burn vehicles, building

  Unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Monday, invaded the premises of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awada, Onitsha station.   The gunmen believed to be part of those terrorising the State for over a year burnt a building, a company bus, and another vehicle parked in the premises belonging to a staff who had worked overnight.   It was gathered that no life was lost in the attack, but the gunmen brutalised the staff they met in the premises, inflicting injuries on them.   As of the time of filling this report, a staff who begged for anonymity, said they were being interrogated by security agents over the attack.   He promised to give a full detail of the attack on them by the gunmen, as he had worked all night, and witnessed the attack.   Anambra Broadcasting Service, a State government-owned company has been giving support to the State government on its fight against rampaging gunmen.

Atiku: ‘PDP betrayed Igbos, Nigerians will face the consequences’ – Ohanaeze chieftain

  Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo political organization, Chuks Ibegbu, on Sunday accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of betraying the Igbos.   Ibegbu made the remark while reacting to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as PDP presidential candidate.   Ibegbu said PDP went contrary to the nation’s mood by picking Atiku as its presidential flag bearer.   He, however, said the Igbos should not rely on political parties but on individuals if the Southeast must achieve its goal of producing Nigeria’s president.   According to Ibegbu: “The mood of the nation is for power to shift to the Southeast, and contrary to the nation’s mood, the PDP has betrayed the Igbos, which we paid the price to sustain. The PDP betrayed the Southeast and the Igbos.   “Ab initio, we have always advocated that for the sake of peace, equity, stability, the progress of the nation, and power should shift to the Southeast political zone and Igbos in general.   “So, PDP went against the mood and current of the nation. However, the door is not yet closed; other political parties are there. And I think we should not be relying on political parties but on individuals if we want to move Nigeria forward.   “PDP has done its own, and other parties are expected to do their own, then Nigerians should decide if we want to continue to be the world’s poverty capital, Nigerians must decide if they want to continue with the insecurity in the Northern part of the country. The insecurity is more in the Northeast, where Atiku hails from. There is insecurity in Daura, where Buhari hails from. We also have insecurity in the Southeast and all over Nigeria.   “The delegates that went to the PDP convention and decided to be swayed by financial inducement, they and their children would face the challenges of tomorrow if we don’t get things right.   “I challenge APC presidential delegates to shun money. Is it not better that Nigeria is progressive and developmentally controlled for the benefit of their children? Or they want billions as a bribe to bring about the wrong leadership. We have been gnashing our teeth for the past seven years due to this collective betrayal, and we are suffering the consequences. Atiku has emerged, and other parties would do their primaries. At the end of the day, Nigerians should shine their eyes and decide if they want to continue in religious and tribal sentiments.”

Former special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on prosecution, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla has asserted that the ruling party in Cross River State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been fractured beyond redemption. He also stated that the party had completely deviated from the ideals of the founding fathers. In a public statement, Obono-Obla, who lost out during the Cross River central senatorial APC primaries yesterday, said that the powers that be were at a crossroads on what to do with him and had devised crude and inferior methods to edge him out. The APC primary election for the Cross River Central Senatorial ticket for next year’s general election was won by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Eteng Williams, who polled 152 votes. He was followed by former chairman of Nigeria Ports Authority, Akin Rickets with 109 votes, while Obono Obla got 19 votes and Mary Ekpere got 35 Votes. “The APC has completely deviated from the philosophy of its founding fathers. Let us see how the anointed aspirants will deliver the Party in Cross River State. As it stands, the Party is fractured beyond redemption,” he said. It was reported that there were allegations of doctored delegate lists to favour the “anointed aspirant“. Obono-Obla said, “Every politically informed person was aware that a particular aspirant was the favorite of the powers that be. The brandishing of the name of one particular aspirant as the favored one weeks before the election amounts to intimidation. “The potentate makes sure that you must have his endorsement before you can aspire to become a candidate. “Aspirants that did not have the endorsement of the potentate, had sorts of obstacles thrown along their paths. I was the target from day one.”

Tinubu reacts to Atiku’s emergence as PDP’s presidential candidate for 2023

2023: ‘You will never be president, Igbos will reject you’ – Ohanaeze slams Atiku

The apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has said the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will never become Nigeria’s president. Ohanaeze made the remark while denouncing the PDP presidential primary that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate. The body described the election as an “erratic and corrupt process that was overseen by the unpatriotic Northerners against the Southern part of the country” Ohanaeze Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, stressed that the Igbo would rise up against Atiku, adding that his presidential campaign would be rejected in the South-East. APC moves presidential primary to June 6

  The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its presidential primary election.   Felix Morka, spokesman of the APC, announced the development in a statement issued on Saturday.   According to Morka, the exercise will now take place from June 6 to 8.   The APC presidential primary election was earlier scheduled for May 29 to 30.    “Following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s extension of deadline for the submission of list of candidates by political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby postpones its Special Convention for Presidential Primary from Sunday, 29th – Monday, 30th of May, 2022 to Monday, 6th – Wednesday, 8th of June, 2022,” the APC spokesman said.   On Friday, INEC announced the extension of the deadline for party primaries.   The commission said in a statement issued by Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner in charge of information and voter education, that it was extending the deadline by six days.   Political parties are now expected to conclude their primaries by June 9, and not June 3 as earlier scheduled by INEC.   The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) had requested an extension of the deadline for the primaries.

Osinachi: Family of Ekwueme singer reportedly fixes burial date, hints on returning bride price

The family of the late gospel artist, Osinachi Nwachukwu, has fixed a date for her burial. Osinachi’s family reportedly fixed June 25, 2022 for the burial of the “Ekwueme” crooner. The deceased family insisted that Osinachi would be buried in her father’s compound at Isuochi, Abia State, instead of her husband’s house. Man who butchered pregnant wife to death sentenced to die by hanging in Akwa Ibom

An Akwa Ibom High Court on Friday sentenced one Nkereuwem Emah to death by hanging for killing his pregnant wife. Emah, 52, from Mbiabam in Ibiono Ibom local government area of the state was said to have butchered his wife of 12 years to death on February 12, 2018, while asleep at their residence over allegation of infidelity. In a one hour judgment, the trial judge, Justice Nkanang described the act as a “callous, inexplicable and inexcusable debasement of the marriage institution.” He said, “the nature of the weapon resorted to by the accused person in ventilating his rage at the victim is a clear pointer that indeed, the accused person clearly intended to kill the deceased.” The judgment came after four years of litigation during which, the prosecution called three witnesses, one of them, the 10-year-old son of the deceased, Christian Sylvanus Etim who narrated how their father killed their mother. According to the witness, his father was a mechanic with the State Water Board, and on the said date, he used a big matchet to cut their mother’s neck while she was asleep in their house. The trial judge held, that the accused was guilty of the offence and thereby sentenced him to death in compliance with Section 339(2) of the Criminal Procedure Law, Cap 39, Laws of Akwa Ibom State. Earlier in his plea for mercy, the accused person had asked the court to temper justice with mercy and give him another chance to go home and take care of his five children.

Police release Ibadan-based broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat

  Ace broadcaster and owner of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has been released from police custody. It was reported that Hamzat, who had consistently advocated for justice in a murder case involving Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife owner, Chief Rahman Adedoyin, was arrested on Thursday. The management of his radio station confirmed his release in a statement on Friday, faulting the claims of the police over the reasons stated for Oriyomi’s arrest. Murder trial: Timothy Adegoke’s death may be natural – Pathologist

  Olusegun Sylvester Ojo, a Professor of Consultant Pathologist at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, (OAUTHC),Ile-Ife, Osun State has told an Osun State High Court that the cause of the death of Timothy Adegoke may be natural.   Ojo made this known during the resumed hearing of the murder case against the founder of Hilton hotel, Ile-Ife, Ramon Adedoyin and six others on Wednesday at the Osun State High Court, Osogbo.   His report was made after examining the autopsy report on late Timothy Adegoke Oluwadamilare, which was conducted on November 22, 2021.   Ojo also told the court that the death of Adegoke could not be anatomically determined.   Timothy Adegoke, was an Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, postgraduate student, who was allegedly killed inside the Hilton Hotels and Suites owned by Rahman Adedoyin, for which he and six of his workers are facing trial.   Recall that the High Court had adjourned hearing on the matter to May 25, 2022, to allow the defendants to open their defence.   At the resumed trial, Femi Falana cross examined the Consultant Pathologist, who revealed that the advanced stage of the decomposing body had made it difficult to determine the cause of death.   The pathologist further ruled out violence as the cause of death of Adegoke Timothy.   In his words, “No internal bleeding, no evidence of external bleeding.”   Dr W. A. Oluogun, and seven other pathologists carried out the autopsy on Timothy Adegoke’s body.   The defendants, Adedoyin, Magdalene Chiefuna (24), Adeniyi Aderogba (37), Oluwale Lawrence (37), Oyetunde Kazeem (38), Adebayo Kunle (35) and Adedeji Adesola (23), were arraigned on March 3 on an 11 count charge bothering on conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful killing of Timothy Adegoke, conspiracy to commit a felony, dumping of the body of Adegoke, conspiracy to improperly and indecently interfere with the body of Adegoke, conspiracy to alter receipt, altering and cancelling of receipt and administering of extra-judicial oath in connection with the killings.

EFCC: Okorocha’s camp links arrest to APC presidential primary

  The camp of former Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha believes his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is political.   The Senator representing lmo West District is being prosecuted for charges, including diversion of State funds.   On Tuesday, EFCC officials and security agents stormed his residence in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja, and took him after breaking in.   The commission accused Okorocha of shunning multiple invitations and jumping administrative bail.   But his spokesman, Sam Onwuemeodo questioned why the arrest coincided with the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening for presidential aspirants.   In a statement, the aide noted that those who had sworn to frustrate Okorocha’s ambition have not relented.   Onwuemeodo said the apprehension occasioned his principal’s demand for a warrant of arrest or court order from the anti-graft agency.   “None was provided. The security personnel finally employed force to arrest Okorocha, without any warrant or court order. If there was any, it could also be made public”, he wrote.   Onwuemeodo recalled that on the day Okorocha declared to run for the office of President, the EFCC invaded the venue to arrest him.   “They claimed they had come to arrest Okorocha and arraign him even when he had not been served. The general outcry by the public saved the situation,” he said.   He said the latest event occurred less than 48 hours after the lawmaker hosted the meeting of APC presidential aspirants from the South-East.   Onwuemeodo warned that if Okorocha is blocked from his bid, over a matter he is deemed innocent until proved otherwise, “it won’t be a nice story for history and posterity.   “We have refused to believe some valid pieces of information at our disposal, on those working to stop Okorocha from exercising his constitutional right.   “The reason for our doubt is that Okorocha has not done anything to warrant such onslaught.”   He stressed that the ex-governor has “sacrificed a lot for Nigeria”, thus stopping his quest for the presidency “would be most uncharitable and very unfortunate”.   The statement further advised the EFCC to avoid “strange hands” in its operations.   “We are yet to detach politics from Okorocha’s ordeal. The commission should not abort Okorocha’s presidential ambition. Let the APC delegates or Nigerians do that”, Onwuemeodo added.

BREAKING: Abaribe withdraws from Abia PDP guber race, hours to primaries

  Senate Minority Leader and a frontline governorship aspirant of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has formally withdrawn from the PDP governorship primaries scheduled for today (Wednesday).   Abaribe who disclosed his withdrawal from the exercise in a press statement cited use of “imaginary delegates list and lack of transparency” as reasons for his action.   Similarly, another leading governorship aspirant from Abia North, and former State Chairman of PDP, Senator Nwaka, has also said he would not participate in the primaries which he dismissed as a charade.   Nwaka expressed disappointment over non compliance with due process and the extant laws in the conduct of the three-man delegate congress which he insisted never held.   Senator Abaribe also said there was no three-man delegate election anywhere in the state by PDP, alleging that the list being bandied about was cooked up by those who want to impose their candidate on the party.   The Senate Minority Leader in a strongly-worded statement personally signed by him, said his next political move would soon be made public.   Below is a full text of the statement made available to Vanguard in Umuahia:   “Notice of Non-Participation in the Abia PDP Gubernatorial Primaries   “The last couple of weeks has been tortuous as we battled hard to navigate our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) away from a self destructive path.   “The essence was to create an unfettered democratic space and a level playing field for all aspirants vying for all elective offices in the state, to participate equally in the primary elections.   “That was not the case and of course what we are witnessing is a shambolic process driven by a procured court injunction.   “To make matters worse, the use of only an imaginary 3-man Adhoc delegates to the exclusion of the party’s statutory delegates in the primary elections to elect our candidates even when INEC the nation’s electoral umpire, has unequivocally stated that no congress held in Abia State for that purpose, has no doubt put the party and her candidates in a quagmire.   “The implication for our party is grave and as such has put all ongoing primary exercises on quick sand.   “I am known for standing firm in defence of my convictions for the right of all people to a free and fair democratic process. That was why my campaign set sail on a democratic journey that took us to all the nooks and crannies of our dear state. We covered all the local governments and we could see the enthusiasm on the faces of our people who are desirous of change to a progressive government with a human face.    “We committed human and material resources, preaching the “Rise Up Abia” message for the total emancipation of our State from the drudgery of imposition and godfatherism, which has seen the state at the lowest wrung of infrastructural, human and material development index among the states of the federation.   “Our people were and are indeed fired up for a new lease of life that will be brought about by a people’s government.   “There was no doubt that Abians are tired of being subjected to being the butt of jokes and ridicle from their peers, particularly those from the contiguous states that were hitherto far behind Abia State in the development index in the time past.   “That was the narrative we sought to change when the campaign took off.   “Unfortunately, the ugly developments ignited by a rapacious ambition to maintain the wicked governance status quo of imposition and godfatherism have aborted this quest in PDP.   “Accordingly, I Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe will not be part of this charade.   “I am therefore withdrawing from the exercise, which means that I will not be part of the PDP governorship primary election that holds in Abia State on Wednesday 25th of May, 2022 as doing so would have amounted to endorsement of an illegality that is already being challenged in the courts.   “I therefore, ask all our people, our teeming supporters and Ndigbo to remain calm, keep the faith and wait for the new direction, which will be announced very soon.   “What is important is that the campaign to liberate Abia State would surely assume a new dimension. NNPP Presidential aspirant, Kwankwaso loses lawmaker to APC

Ogun: Three killed, six arrested as cultists engage police in gun duel

Three persons were reportedly killed in Ogun State on Tuesday as some suspected cultists engaged one another in Abeokuta, the State capital. The clash, it was learnt, was as a result of the gruesome killing of a suspected Aiye cult member on Sunday. It was learnt that victim’s colleagues went on rampage in an attempt to avenge the death of the area boy, popularly known as Wale. A security agent informed our correspondent that two persons were killed around Slaab and Amolasho in the early hours of Tuesday. Also, one person was killed in front in front of a filling station at Ijaye area of the metropolis as the rival cult groups ‘overran’ the State capital on Tuesday morning “The corpses have been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary,” the source said. In an attempt to restore normalcy, the Ogun State police command had deployed its men to the affected areas, but the cultists were said to have engaged the police in a gun battle. The incident has since paralysed commercial activities around Ijaye and Iyana Mortuary as residents and motorists took cover. The Ogun State police spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying six men belonging to Eiye and Aiye confraternities have been arrested in Abeokuta. Oyeyemi identified the suspects as: Kazeem Ogundairo (a.k.a NEPA), Ayo Joshua (a.k.a Terry G), Nasiru Idris (a.k.a Aloma), Bisiriyu Ibrahim Owoyele, Damilare Shogbamu (a.k.a Dhray) and Labulo Jamiu (a.k.a Jay boy). He said they were arrested after residents of Ijaye contacted the police to inform them that “the cultists were running riot in the area.” According to him, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had mobilised the special squad led by ACP Bolanle Muritala to the scene, so as to bring the situation under control. “On sighting the policemen, some of the hoodlums ran to different directions, while some engaged the policemen with dangerous weapons. “At the end of the encounter, the squad succeeded in arresting six amongst the hoodlums, while others escaped,” Oyeyemi explained.

Some governors even travel abroad and spend years while their States suffer.   Ekiti is one of such States where the complaints about an absentee Chief executive has been resonating, with the citizens and members of the opposition expressing worries about Governor Fayemi relocating to Abuja.   And in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, the Governor admitted spending more time in Abuja than Ekiti.   However, he added that where he spends his time should not be a source of worry to the people. According to him, they should be more worried if he is not performing his duty as a governor.   “I do,” Fayemi said when asked if he truly spends more time in Abuja than Ekiti.   “I know some [people] feel it. Certainly I spend more time [in Abuja] in this second term in office than I did in my first term in office.   “But, you know, that shouldn’t bother anyone beyond perception level, bother. It is whether it is telling on my performance as a governor that should be worrying,” he stated.

  Senator Ayo Pius Akinyelure, representing Ondo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has claimed that a conspiracy led to his defeat in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial primary.   According to Akinyelure, a former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, was behind his defeat.   On Monday, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, defeated the second-term Senator who was seeking a third term.   Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petition, Akinyelure received 58 votes, while Adedipe received 82 votes in the primary held in Akure, Ondo State capital.   The PDP Senator, while expressing displeasure over the development, said, “I did not expect to be paid this manner for the amount of work I did for the Ondo Central Senatorial District. But I’m on a mission that no one can stop.”   “As a ranking Senator and with everything I’ve done for them in the Ondo Central Senatorial District, the three ad-hoc delegates who supported Olusegun Mimiko were given instructions to vote me out,” he said.   He added that “I understand what I’m talking about. In the Central, we have six local governments and by the grace of God, I am still a Senator. This makes me pleased, but I know that God will never let me down.”
